Devout atheists often criticize religious people for having faith in things they have no proof of. I believe in evolution, however I have no remains of early humans I could use as evidence to support evolution. I have faith that scientists have collected such remains and made good judgments in theorizing the origins of our species.
I believe in the Big Bang, yet here again, I could not provide a scrap of evidence to prove my belief. Calculus confuses me; to try to study the physics of the Big Bang would result in a similar explosion of my own brain. Even if I could provide proof for the Big Bang or evolution it would not matter. Science is constantly overturning and re-writing theories. Science has only recently discovered the benefits of Yoga and Meditation, practices religions have encouraged for thousands of years.
Socrates claimed that he was the wisest man in Greece because he knew that he knew nothing. The more we assure ourselves what we "know" is the truth and what others "know" is false, the more we distance ourselves from our fellow human beings.
